Writing a Blog: Wow, Where to Start: Well, I have been helping people with their online presence over the last few weeks…… I Belong to BNI (Business
Networking International) and we have about 37 people in our Team, YES I call it my TEAM, I help my team their build business with the people I talk to every day, and they help me. I am part of their marketing team and, they are part of my Marketing Team.
So when writing a BLOG where do we START?????? So where do we start a Blog.... Well we should start with,
what is YOUR Goal? What is the purpose of the blog you want to write, do you want to inspire people, build business, build friends, teach, or you could choose to have a private blog and only for your family, and use it for a journal for your family.. What is the reason you want to BLOG? I ask this because this will set up for the next step where to host your BLOG. Ok, so there are places like ActiveRain (AR) that focuses on Real Estate, and people in the industry can join and that give AR support & Power to be found on Google, Yahoo, Bing and more…..
Now, what format to use when starting a Blog? You can use, Blogger (I have about 15 blogs their), then there is WordPress (I have 2), and ActiveRain (I have an account with 2 additional Blogs), Thoughts.com, HUB Pages (OK soooo, there are so many!!!! To choose from). You need to choose what is the best for you, what will get what I have to say out and have people look at it? Or, only family to read. If you are doing it for business then you need to get it out to as many as possible.
Ok, Got all that set UP, now what do I write about???? OK, Believe it or not, this is the easy part!!!!!!!!! If you are Blogging for WORK, Check this out (101 Topics for Blogs) what questions have you been asked by a client, what information do you want to share about your area, job, business, life, lesson learned. There are so many things you can do. If you are blogging about your family, then what have they done, what has your children taught you. Ask questions, you can get detailed in what you want to say, ask for HELP.
Now Starting a Blog, how do I write it? Well, this is a little more complicated, you need to be purposeful in what you say. Here are a few steps I have learned and pleas chime in on things that you have learned.
1. Have a Great subject line that will draw people in (this I need to work harder on)
2. Take that subject line and make it your first line in you blog. Then repeat it ( you can mix the words a bit) and have it repeated about 2-4% in your blog (highlight it)
3. Only have 250 to 350 words in your blog. If you need to do more than, I would suggest that you write it on your website make a summary and post it as a blog, then direct them to your website for the full article.
4. Add things like Links to relevant subject matter
5. Videos are great if you can add them in, link to videos in YouTube, actually I suggest that you create your channel and direct people to that.
6. Make your subject line the very last line in the blog…..
7. Read other blogs that can help you grow as a writer and as a person. This will help you blogging as
well..
