Annotating Your You Tube Videos

I was reading Lottie Kendall's post "A Facebook Story for Doubters", where she posted her own video of a not-yet-on-the-market home on Facebook and got a great response from it.  In her video, she made fantastic comments about the area and even made suggestions on what different areas could be used for.  The one thing I noticed in her video and something I have noticed missing in many other videos that REALTORS® seem to overlook is annotating your You Tube videos.  This is a very subtle way to advertise yourself without being glaringly in-your-face.

For REALTORS®, I would suggest adding your contact information and/or website URL to the top of bottom of your videos.  Also, in the description, add a direct link to the listing in the video, with a link to your website as well.  It's really very simple to do.  After you upload your video to You Tube:

  1. Add a Title - For listings, make sure to put the address in the title.  The title is the first thing to come up in a search and many buyers type in the address of a house they are looking for in the search engines.
  2. Add a Description - Make the URL the very first thing you enter in the description, so it comes up in the search description as well.  Then, add a description of the video.  I would suggest using your MLS description.  But, make sure there are no grammatical or spelling errors.
  3. Add Tags - Include the address (with city/state) here as well.
  4. Add Annotations - Click the Annotations tab (third from the left) above your video.  This is where you add your notes that will appear in your video.  You can add several, swapping them out at different times in the video, or just add one simple line that carries throughout the entire video.
  5. Publish!

With the embed codes and direct links, you can add your videos to social media, websites and even your signature.  By annotating your You Tube videos, you can advertise yourself without the "But wait!  There's more!" yelling at you from the screen.
