Responding to an Employment Opportunity
Responding to an opportunity for short term census work led to a full time / part time work opportunity.
Having worked for many years in the construction industry there were often times that I would be out of work for extended periods. Like many during those times you do what you have to do to put food on the table and pay the Mortgage.
During one of those times I worked as an enumerator. I also did a stint as a census worker. While I did not expect to land any full time work from either employer I was surprised and pleased to receive a job offer as a result.
Short Term Employment Opens Doors
One of the doors I knocked on was the residence of a local employer who asked me why I was doing this type of work. We had a short conversation (more like an on the spot interview) and the gentleman asked me to come back when I was finished as he had what he felt was an opportunity for me.
Indeed it was an opportunity, a great one he hired me with the understanding that if an opportunity came along I would be returning to construction as it was a much better paying form of employment. over the next several years I would work for him when ever I became unemployed and and on a part time bases at other times. It was a win win for both of us.
Now that I am retired I will once again respond to a short term employment opportunity and see where it leads me
