Through much of December and January of this current winter, here in Denver we were very lucky to experience an extremely mild winter. With temps often in the 40's, 50s and even 60's - snow in Denver was sparse if any. The Colorado mountains kep the snow to themselves and here in Denver we were very lucky to be spared of the major storms in other parts of the country.
Then into very late January and early February we finally received a deep freeze - 2 of them actually. Two arctic fronts found their way to Denver finally and absolutely bitter cold temps surrounded the Denver metro area with temps some mornings with -20 degrees F. Denver schools closed from the cold in the first storm, the 2nd front it was more about the icy roads that caused school delays. The most recent of the cold fronts really just retreated late last week.
With several inches in a few different storms - 6 inches here, 7 inches there, it all added up and with the bitter cold, the snow on the ground stuck around.
Now we have our warm up, temps the last few days snuck up each day, first the 20's then 30's & 40's, 50's and today was definitely well into the 60's.
This was a common scene here in the Denver area - folks in shorts & T-shirts with boots on & shovels chipping away at ice. This is my son who was at first clearing ice with some other neighbor boys but it gradually became less work and more fun as they dipped their toes in and made man made canals to guide the melting water to the sewers.

The streets became fast flowing streams today as the snow melted very quickly. A few more days of this and the snow & bitter cold will only be a distant memory.
So if you are relocating to Denver - yes - we do get extreme cold. As cold as it just was is very rare, but it does happen. But before you know it you will be chipping away the last of the ice in shorts.
