My Life Feels Like a Cruise Ship Sometimes... and Not in the Good ship

Wow, this hit me like a ton of bricks today.. ok maybe a ton of chocolate covered hearts considering it's Valentine's Day. But I just likened my life of business - and personal I guess, to a cruise ship.

Ever been on one? What is there to do??  EVERYTHING - that's what! If you are bored on a Cruise it's your own fault. I have only been on one cruise in my life and it was a short one at that but I loved it!! ~Side note- I LOVED eating a full dinner of anything I wanted, then going up to the Sushi Bar at 10pm and gorging again on that! HA ~

That being said, my folks have been on many cruises.. for weeks, months at a time. There is always something to do. You literally cannot do everything they have for you on a cruise ship.  There is one activity after another... in all areas of the boat too... for all ages!  You barely have time to do the relaxing you so desperately wanted to do because of the constant barrage of games, events, contests, activities, etc....

This got me to thinking about life. There is ALWAYS something to do. Take ActiveRain for example... What prompted this blog is the group Bananatude did a Valentines contest and I happened to miss it. I really love contests and am usually up for anything but missed this one this time and I feel bummed about it!

Then I started looking on my Twitter page.. there were contests there too! My competitive bone is getting ruffled because of all these missed opportunities... but if you caught my last blog about not even having TIME to blog, you can see why. I do have a lot of wonderful new clients and my first priority is to them.

I think that is the case with all of us. There are so many social networks to keep us occupied, locked into, updated and blogging about that we barely have time for business much less life in general.

We have to pick our battles as we go through life. Not necessarily pick those things to which we argue and fight over but those things that take up our time.

We can't participate in every activity on a cruise, so in life, we can't keep up with every social media, every contest and every person that comments (although I have seen some heated blogs about that lately.) We need to prioritize our life into segments that truly mean something, have value or enrich our lives and family as a whole.

So I missed some contests.....   eehhhh, I won't stress... I'll catch the next one....

Tammy- I know the feeling.  I don't want to miss a thing but sometimes you have to do what you can, set your priorities and remember that life does and will go on... and there will be more contests!

It does Kathy and we can't possibly keep up with everything. We can try and drive ourselves into the ground,,, but it's not worth it. :)

Missed opportunities our just taking care of priorities and business?  You are right, there will other contests and no doubt you will probably win with your go-get-em attitude & smarts.  Good luck!

Tammy, I like you analogy of being on cruise ship. I think that is what being online feels like sometimes. As for priorities, it is all about doing what is important for you and your business. Good post!

Tammy, are you sure it's not sea sickness? Thank you for the "mention" above. You may slow down and regroup but I don't think you will go away. I look forward to reading your blogs. I have learned a number of things from you.

Tammy...I'm beginning to wonder myself how I can fit all this in.  I did just complete a challenge, Never answer the same question twice.  I'm working on the Valentine challenge to post each day in the month of February.  It's hard to fit it all in!

I know what you mean, Tammy, I had to cut back on my Twitter time on the weekends to spend more time with the family. Now my Klout score has suffered as a result, but you know what? My family's WAY more important.

Tammy,  You are very correct -- there is so much to do that we need to figure out what to do and what not to do.  We need to concentrate on the 80/20 rule.  And work on the 20% that accomplishes our goals!

Tammy ~ you hit the nail on the head on this one.  AR is just like a cruise ship.  Many times you find out about the activity/contest after the fact.  I wish all the groups that did hold a contest would post them to the ActiveRain Contest Group.  It would make it a little easier for those of us that have that competitive bone!

I know your feelings. There is always something to do. As soon as you think you are catching up, you look around and see that you forgot this or missed that and are actually behind again. Where to start...when to stop....
