Sonoma Home with a Pool? No Way!
A home with a pool in Sonoma is a must-have for some and I get it. I started swimming at about the same time I learned to walk. I was lucky to have a grandfather who swam competitively (against Johnny Weissmuller and Duke Kahanamoku, no less.) I have wonderful memories of rambunctious relay races and playing Marco Polo until I lost my voice and my skin shriveled up like a prune.
My poolside sunbathing days are over---those UV rays are bad for you, don't you know!! Still, when July rolls around, I long for a deck chair, my tanning potion, sunglasses and a fluffy beach towel. And those lazy summer late-afternoons with the low drone of small planes overhead, the laughing crows, and the hypnotic hum of the honeybees---pure bliss. This old black and white photo was taken at my grandparents pool in Glen Ellen. That's my brother on the left and my sister on Gramp's shoulders getting ready to take a dive. I'm the photographer...or you'd see me in there, too.
My perspective on pools is different when it comes to selling real estate. With a significant number of buyers, a home with a pool can be an instant turn-off. Here are some of the reasons:
- Safety concerns for toddlers and young kids
- The time and expense of maintenance
- Insurance costs
- Too many unwanted guests---yes, I've heard that more than once.
A Sonoma home with a pool will always be popular with plenty of buyers. However, it's very important for sellers to understand that pools are not always an asset even with thousands of dollars of landscaping, outdoor kitchens, and built-in barbecue grills.
Now, if you've got a Sonoma home with a pool to sell, you know who to call. I'll find the right buyer or you can throw me in the deep end and I'll do 100 laps---cell phone and all. If you are a buyer, I'm your agent. I know tons about pools and I'm good at skimming leaves, too.
