Duplication is not Always the Key - A Restaurant Review

Tonight, Big Guy and I planned to celebrate Valentine's Day together along with most of the rest of the country.  We decided to go out to eat at a new restaurant in our area.  Actually, it's a 3rd or 4th offspring of a place we love to visit.  Featured on the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives", the original Twisted Root Burger Company serves big, juicy burgers (made from your choice of beef, turkey, veggie or even kangaroo) topped the way YOU want them.  Sides are baskets of fried pickles, sweet potatoes, onions or a combination thereof.  There are special sauces on the table to give your burger a "kick".  5-gallon jars of pickles in various configurations line one wall of the serving area.  Yes, it's a bit loud and honky-tonk/funkish.  But it's also busy....very busy....with repeat customers standing in line out the door waiting to order.

That was NOT our experience tonight at the Fairview, Texas location.  Granted, it's only been open a couple of months.  However, it did not live up to our expectations at all.  We will make the drive to Deep Ellum when the craving for a great burger hits.  Convenience is not all it's cracked up to be.  That's all I'll say about that....:(

Tammy - Your right, just because something is good in one place, it may not be so good somewhere else.  After all the staff is different and the people doing the cooking are different.  Now if you could only clone the right people and have them everywhere it might work.  No bad idea...

Sorry to hear about your experience on Valentines Day. That might be the reason it didn't meet your expectations. On special days the kitchens don't run as expected. Hope it will end better.

Steve - clones would be a great idea!  In some cases, of course :)

Maria - We were there pretty early and the crowd wasn't bad.  We'll let others try it on different days and compare notes.

Tammy, sad but true, when you crave something so bad...it never turns out the way you expect!

Ellen - that is SO true!  Now I have to go to the location that is 30 miles from me to get a great burger :(  Reckon that's a hint...????

Sorry to hear your burger was not all cut out to be what you wanted.

Sometimes it takes the pans and grills some time to become seasoned. So the food taste may change in a few months. I would go back later and if taste did not change then it probably never will.

THANKS Janna!  I can't believe I'm that close too :)

Sussie - There are so many wonderful places to eat near here.  I'm sure we will circle back around to it at some point.  It's just not at the top of our list like we expected it to be.
