Last week was one of the most difficult weeks of our career

By
Real Estate Agent with The Hudson Company Winnetka and North Shore

Last week was one of the most difficult weeks of our career.

We moved our licenses to a new office. We started our real estate career with our former broker. They’re a wonderful firm. The oldest independent firm in our market. They’re still family owned. Fifth generation. They were on the front edge of the move to technology. We loved our managing broker. The support staff is fabulous. Many of our closest friends in the business are at that firm. Much of what we learned about real estate, we learned there.

However…

mixed emotions

For a variety of reasons, we didn’t feel that it would allow for our business to grow at the rate we would expect and hope for. We had been contemplating a move for some time, but the stars were never properly aligned. Moving your license is a very risky proposition... Losing current clients...Losing touch with former clients... Potential clients looking for you but not finding you...yada, yada, yada. You can lose sleep for months worrying that you forgot to cross all the “t’s” and dot all the “i’s”.

The Reality...

We couldn’t be happier. We went with a small “boutique” firm (one of the few remaining in our market) with a strong emphasis on professionalism and service. We love the broker and the agents in the office as well as the support staff. We’re excited by the level of activity and collaboration among agents. So far, the hardest part has been trying to remember which drawer any particular form is kept and how to use all of the “cool” technology that we didn’t have access to in the old office.

We’re psyched!

I wish you all the good luck there is...

Changes are difficult, but good.  We get comfortable in our "zone" and don't want to leave so we sit there.

Break out and take the first step to a new role in life.

Enjoy!

Howard & Susan - I've changed brokerages a few times in my career and it was always the right decision.  A little tough at first, but definitely well worth it.  Good Luck!

Howard and Susan:  I just now read your post ... the first of which I hope is many.  Congratulations to you on your recent decision to move to a new office.  I decided a little over two years ago to make the jump to Chicago Bancorp.  Change can be a scarey thing, so I understand how brave a thing you've done, especially in the current market.  But you never grow if you don't take chances.  I believe you will remain happy that you took this step.  I know I have ...    Again, Congrats and best of luck ...

Howard and Susan, best wishes to both of you at your new office. I believe we all, at some point, reached the maximum potential with a certain company and need to move on or stagnate. Sounds like you found the right fit.

Thank you for visiting my post on FSBOs. I didn't realize how divided Realtors are on this topic. I've received advice to completely abandon them from some, or go after FSBOs with full force from the others. I realize now that we need to pick what works for us and try to master that area. Have a great day.
