Fireside is very popular with military personnel due to its easy access to the main base, and its location directly across from Oak Harbor's largest sports park at Fort Nugent Park. It is also less than a five minute drive to West Beach, the Seaplane Base (where the Commissary and Navy Exchange are located), and the Oak Harbor Marina. There is a popular walking and biking trail that begins at Fort Nugent Park and winds several miles down through Windjammer Park and along the city waterfront to Maylor Point on the Seaplane Base.
