Looking To Buy An Affordable Home In Prince William County?

For those who have considered buying a home but have been turn down due to their income being too low should exhaust other options.

Habitat For Humanity, Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park is looking for families to partner with. In 2010 Habitat For Humanity was able to purchase four homes for families and currently has two homes still available.

If you or someone you know has lived in Prince William County, Manassas, or Manassas Park for at least the last year and is interested in partnering with Habitat for Humanity to own your own home, we invite you to join us for an orientation.

Humanity For Humanity uses volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials to build and rehabilitate houses with the help of future homeowners. Houses are sold to families at no profit and are financed through affordable mortgages that are paid over many years. The homeowner's monthly mortgage payments support the construction or rehabilitation of more houses.

Criteria that will be evaluated for Home-Ownership include:

  • the need for adequate housing (Over crowded conditions, dilapidated housing, paying more than you can afford)
  • your ability to pay for a mortgage, must earn between 30% - 50% of the area median income based on your family size.
  • lived in Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park for at least one year.
  • your willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity

Year 2010 Guidelines (Effective May 17, 2010)

Three $27,950 $46,600
Five $33,550 $55,900
Seven $38,550 $64,200

How it works is that Family Partners purchase their home from Habitat at cost. There is no profit added to the sale price.  The Family Partners, friends and family then put in “sweat equity” to rehab their home and the homes of other families.

Attendance at an orientation is required to receive an application. The next orientations will be held:

• The next orientation is Thursday, 7/21, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Manassas Baptist Church, Parlor Room, 8800 Sudley Rd, Manassas, VA 20110

Susan,

Thanks for the post.  I kind of knew what Habitat did but didn't realize the specifics - especially about the family getting involved early on.

Thanks,

Jamie
