Small Business Owners-Do You Have A BMD?

A BMD is a Business Maturity Date, a date that you could leave your business to go on vacation or do something you have always dreamed of doing, while making money and not having to put the pieces oChuck's BMD partyf your business back together.

About a year ago, The Corrigan Group got involved with The Crankset Group. About 100 plus business owners from all types of business gathered to explore the topic of growing our businesses.

That day changed our business and our lives.

Chuck Blakeman, author of Making Money is Killing Your Business, ( # 1 business book of the Year by the Federation of Independent Business Owners) spoke . "The number one reason that most business owners remain on the treadmill and cannot make money while they are on vacation or have a plan to create time and significance as well as money in their business is because they do not really intend to." says Blakeman. Chuck is often quoted as saying, "We get what we intend, not what we hope for!"

We had goals to make more money. We did not have time and significance in our written plan. We spent many hours and increased our business. We were worn out and wondered if this was all there is.

Our Business Maturity Date is March 4, 2012 at 3:04 pm.

We will celebrate our BMD, with our team of ten. We will have people in place who understand their roles and work with enthusiasm towards their own personal goals. Thom and I will joyfully board a plane headed for Ireland and Italy, knowing that our business is in the hands of motivated, skilled and competent people who will continue to move the business forward.

The four building blocks of creating a BMD are: 1. Knowing what is our preferred ideal life style and our Big Why, 2. Having a 2 page Strategic Plan, 3. Process Mapping and 4. Having outside eyes on our business.

Friday, February 18, 2011, we will celebrate Chuck and Diane Blakeman as they pop the cork on the champagne bottle that has worn their BMD date for four years. As you read Chuck's book, you will note that as of the writing of the book he does not have any staff.  Yet this Friday he and his staff will celebrate his BMD as we send off Diane and he to New Zealand for a well deserved vacation.

My hope is that as a real estate agent and small business owner you will read this and become inspired to ask how you might create a life filled with great income, time and significance. The Crankset Group can help. This organization was created to help small business owners realize their ideal lifestyle. For more information contact http://cranksetgroup.com or contact me directly.

This has been the best thing to happen to my business, my life and even my marriage in a long time!

Find vacations with your family are the best step back, see where your life, career is heading and quickly knowing what to keep doing, beef up. Or pull back and use that time for new ways to reach more people, with frequency. More often. Media is the key for anyone wearing the "R". How to use it, what is out there. Adjust your sails. See the path that is, not the market that was, or will be. Live in the now. That is one small table for all those elbows eating, when the professionals start talking with their hands.

As a serial entrepreneur, I learned early on to pay yourself back frequently.  Over the Christmas holidays, my wife and I sat down with the calendar and picked the dates for our vacations for this year and the weekends that will be getaways.  If we didn't we would end up not taking any because something always comes up.

Hello Sandy, making vacation time with the family is such a huge thing!  If you don't set the time down in advance you'll never take the time off.  Especially in our line of work!
