It never ceases to amaze me how many people really don't listen! Perhaps in today's world, the visual plays a more important role with people than does listening. In the days of radio, people had to listen. In these days of television, texting and internet-people may be more visual.
But, it's only through listening that we really learn. Being a bit frustration by the fact that people just aren't listening, I've done my research and have found some helpful tips.
Tips to Listen by-
Act like a good listener-Become the face of a receiver; look at the person speaking-Be engaged and be an ‘active' listener.
React to Speaker with non-verbal signals-Your face must move; nod occasionally. If you find it hard to concentrate-try repeating the speaker's words and listen for main ideas.
Avoid thinking about rebuttals
Pay Attention and avoid being distracted
Interrupting is a waste of time-defer judgment; let the speaker finish before you begin provide feedback.
And, most importantly, Stop Talking-It is extremely difficult to listen, when your mouth is moving!
In truth, Good communication skills require a high-level of self-awareness. By understanding your personal style of communicating, you will go a long way towards creating good and lasting impressions with others.
