Seven Riverside County bands will take the stage Friday afternoon to compete for a substantial grand prize of a Gretsch drum kit and several Fender guitars and equipment, County Supervisor John Benoit said. The finalists were announced on February 1, 2011, and since then have been preparing their stage presentation for Friday's show.
The competition will begin at noon on The Magic Carpet Stage at The Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio. According to The Date Festival website, admission to the Fairgrounds is free from 10:00am to 3:00pm on Friday. The seven finalists competing are:
- June, Like The Month - Nuevo, CA
- News of the Fire - La Quinta, CA
- New College Try - La Quinta, CA
- A Beating Heart - Riverside, CA
- Jekkel - Bermuda Dunes, CA
- Dead End Paradox - Palm Desert, CA
- Grow Well - Palm Desert, CA
The competition is scheduled to run until 4:00pm. The bands will be judged on technical performance, originality of songs, professionalism, stage presence, vocals and audience reaction.
The Riverside County Fair and Date Festival opens Friday, February 18, 2011, and runs through February 27 at the fairgrounds in Indio.
