Billy Gene Holder, better known as "Shakey", is a local legend who has been serving the Irving, TX fire department since 1955. He was recently on the news for his long standing tenure and his upcoming retirement. He is a family friend whom my Dad worked with during his career as a fireman and they have remained best friends ever since. There is a special bond that goes with that too, one that I didn't know about until my parent's 50th anniversary.
Shakey and his sweet wife Ginger was there to celebrate my parents milestone, when my Dad made a "thank you announcement" to him. I won't go into great details about it other than one day my Dad was late for work to the fire department (which he is never late to anything!) and Shakey decided to come to our house to check on him. At that time I was around 2 years old and my brother is a couple years older than me. We were both there including my Mom and Dad. Nobody answered the knock on the door, and Shakey, full of determination, made his way into our home only to find it filled with the smell of gas. God sent Shakey to our house that day, and my family are all here to testify to that. Thank you Billy Jean Holder for your determination to be the best firefighter you can be! He is also one of the most humble people I know too; he never looks for recognition for doing what his heart tells him to do. I encourage you to watch the video below, it will inspire you.
