A Tale of Self-Discovery & Determination
I just started reading "Surviving your Serengeti" by Stefan Swanepoel and was fascinated with this tale of self-discovery and the parallel of my own life in this book. Much like the character, Sean Spencer, I built my business from the ground up and have found the economic struggles of the past few years to present an interesting challenge to my real estate businesses.
When your environment changes, sometimes you and your business approach have to change, too.
In Sean Spencer's case, he found renewed motivation within himself through the observations of his brilliant friend, Zachariah, who studied animals in the wild. Zachariah thought by studying each animal's unique skills and roles in the circle of life, he could apply it to the human race and how we survive through determination in the business world.
Within the first 2 Chapters of the book, you learn that the wildebeest are the dominant species in the Serengeti, far outnumbering the other animals there. This really proves that you don't have to be the strongest, fastest, or smartest "animal" in your own jungle... just the most determined. If you can understand your limits and work within them, you can prosper and go far.
To keep that fighting spirit alive, it helps if you have a business partner, friend or spouse to support and encourage you.
My wife has been an essential component in my personal and business life. If you can't find that endurance within yourself or if you temporarily lose your way, it's nice to have someone encouraging you along the way. Enduring together is better than enduring alone- What an incredible lesson!
