Cell Phone or “Droid”?

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that up until relatively
recently I was extremely low tech when it came to my phone. I’m a computer geek
and a purist. My phone was my phone and my computer was my computer and never
the two shall meet. I resisted for a long time. I dipped my toe in the pool
ever so gingerly when I went to a phone with a full QWERTY keypad. But that was
as far as I was willing to go. That is until my best friend got a droid…When I
saw all the cool stuff she could do with her phone my inner geek got the better
of me. I mean come on! It’s like carrying a mini-computer around with you. I
can text, surf the web, take awesome pictures, send email, view documents, read
a book, track a flight, play music, watch a movie, find my way, print to my
wireless printer, process payments from clients, not to mention about a
gazillion other things…oh yeah…and make phone calls. I LOVE my HTC EVO! I have
to say it’s a big boy at 4.8” by 2.6” by .05” with a 4.3” LCD screen and
weighing in at 6 oz. But given all I can do with it, I don’t mind a little
extra heft. It comes standard with 8 GB of storage for all the awesome pictures
you will take plus a standard 3.5 mm headset jack. So for all of you hold outs,
do yourself a favor. Run, don’t walk to your nearest provider store and get
yourself a droid!

It looks like a pretty cool phone. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

I too am a computer / web nerd and held out on getting a smartphone because I didn't want to have that much accessability while I was on the road.  That and my 3 year old liked to clean daddy's phone in the dishwasher and my old phone could take that.

I got my new one just before Christmas and haven't looked back.

Karen, there must be a Droid in my future... a very late technology adopter in my office just bought the HTC Evo last week and has been raving about it... now  the choice is HTC or Samsung or do I wait for Nokia's Windows based offering... time to ditch my Blackberry...

Hi James, Battery life was a concern for me initially but I have found it to be pretty good. I don't always run all the bells and whistles such as the GPS, 4G (which I don't have in my area anyway), only sometimes use the Bluetooth...so I don't have an issue with battery life. Of course being the good geek that I am, I immediately purchased an extra battery and wall charger (on ebay) just in case :) Oh and the screen locks automatically so no pocket dialing issues either. Go ahead...jump in!

How does it work as a phone? I must admit I've been tempted for a while and am pretty unhappy with my switch from a Treo to Blackberry. I have unlimited internet use, but who cares when the screen is so small.

Hi Colleen, Oh yes...the phone part. That is kind of important isn't it? I have had no issues with my call quality. Of course a lot of the time that depends more on your provider than the phone itself. I personally use Sprint and have had no issues.
