Simple as ABC ... What to Write?

By

Topographic Letters in Jamie's CollectionTime to write a post and just drawing a blank?  Ideas floating around but not sure how to put the thoughts together to express yourself?

For me it starts with inspiration of a photograph, newspaper headlines, a conversation or question from a colleague, or ideas drawn from a reading of another blog post, an experience or event, and mostly for things I feel passionate about.

During the day I will jot a note of ideas in a notebook and I have my camera ready to capture the perfect photo when opportunity arises.  This adds a new element of fun to my daily real estate activities as I have begun to view things in a different light.

Authoring the post should be an expression of your thoughts in an organized and easy to read manner for the reader.

  • Begin with an interesting catchy title that gives a glimpse of the content .
  • Don't make the paragraphs lengthy as the readers generally will click off of a post that is long unless it truly has excellent information.
  • Bullet points are wonderful ... brief & gives quick glance information.
  • Selection of a photo/cartoon is key as it is the first impression and draws the reader to find out more.
  • Highlight of key statements & words adds another element so the reader at a glance to skim and decide if they will read it fully.
  • The way you set it up, incorporate color all goes to aesthetics .. just like staging a home, goes to impressions.

ActiveRain has wonderful help posts to give you a wealth of information on how to incorporate videos, links, attract SEO to the public.  Many of our finest AR members share tips on many areas to improve and maximize your blog.  Subscribe to these members and the staff blog posts and READ them!  Going to the ActiveRain Camps will further give you a whole new level to your blog post and to your real estate business as well.

Most of all ... ENJOY .. this is not homework but an expression of your personality and business opportunity as well.  The benefit .. Great ActiveRain friends and another avenue to outreach for networking and a way to gain positive name exposure.  It begins with you ... a plan ... a thought ... and just typing away.

Connie -  Thank you for the suggestion to write down ideas during the day.  I always have my camera ready but I forget to jot down the notes and once it's gone - it's GONE!!!

Thanks Connie. I agree with the comment above that your idea to jot it down during the day is a great idea. We all get writers block. When I get really frustrated is when I think "What am I an Expert on?" and I can't think of anything.

I’m lucky because my other half has about 200 posts already written in Word. I just have to pick one I like, freshen it up, add some pictures, and make it mine (sometimes he still talks and writes Texan J♪♫♫♪).

Connie, great overview of what makes people STICK to what you write. Sometimes it is like writing a short story, the simpler the better in many instances.

Bill & Cyndi - make it fun by having a special notebook that is small and easy to carry to jot down a note or two.  You never know when the idea will hit.

Bob - the good thing is you don't have to be an expert.  Just share some things like you did about Lauren, being positive and just a little inspiration in the moment, etc.  The posts I see receive most comments generally are of pets and photos so there you go .. lots to draw from and sprinkle on some real estate and you have a great blog!  Thanks for your visit!

Richard - isn't if funny how these posts can be consuming?  I find myself thinking .. oh, this would be great or if I could snap a shot and use it in my posts.  So far I have been lucky to not have a block hit.  Thanks for your comments!

Jim- I know you have an arsenal of posts to draw and then make your own.  It is nice to have a few ideas tucked away to draw from for the future.  Mostly I go with the moment.

Gary - Great for you to visit .. you are the master of gaining attention on a post and I draw inspiration from your success!!

Many thanks to all for the kindness of visiting my post and commenting!!

HI CONNIE!  Ahhh ... you just make it so easy for anyone to follow to be successful!  Very nicely presented - the only other thing I do is remind myself that even if a topic or post sounds silly to you - don't worry about it - not everything you write about is perfect and it's OK if it sounds little silly - because it may not to others and it also shows the various aspects of your personality! -- G

Connie - What a great post about how to put together a post.  I typically don't have a problem with putting one together, I get a little verbose, which I have to work on but my biggest challenge is a catchy title.  This is good for those newbie bloggers who struggle with establishing a good blog.
