Surviving Your Serengeti: An Active Rain Challenge
I have just completed the first two chapters of this incredible book, Surviving Your Serengeti, by Stefan Swanepoel. It is well written and the comparison between man and beast and the way they adapt in life by their environment is genius.
The book is a fable of self discovery that takes place in the Serengeti, far away from the comfort zone of business owner Sean Spencer. There is no cell service and no electronics, only raw nature and time to reflect on how each of the animals survival skills kick in to adapt to the seasons in order to stay alive.
After reading the first two chapters, I am addicted and wanting more. The chapters focus on the Wildebeast and endurance they are forced to have to survive. I thought the Wildebeast chapter was very reflective of todays real estate market and how we are also forced to endure through dry spells and continue pushing forward in search of "water" to survive. I love the way the main character is put out of his comfort zone but learns to adapt and relax enough to really see that if you step back you can see more clearly where you are and work on self discovery.
After taking the quiz, Which Animal Are You?, I was not surprised to see that I am the Giraffe. I am a people pleaser and love to guide people and really help them shine. This has always been my personality trait and I believe it is a very positive attribute to the real estate business...after all....we are helping people make the most expensive decisions of their life and helping them decide where they will live, raise their families, retire, etc. That is a lot of trust that our clients have put in us and I certainly want to make sure the end result is their happiness!
I highly recommend downloading the first two chapters of this book as it will leave you thirsty for more. I am awaiting the release of the book so I can finish the tale of the "man vs beast" and how we can learn from these animals and relate their survival to our own in the business world!
