Almost a year has passed since the 2010 Flood of Fairfield and the creation of the Passaic River Basin Flood Advisory Commission.  The Passaic River Basin Flood Advisory Commission as created by New Jersey Governor Christie's Executive Order No. 23, were responsible for "identifying both short-term and long-term recommendations to enhance flood mitigation efforts, emergency response planning and streamlining requirements that impede post-flooding recover."  In addition the Flood Advisory Commission was responsible for identifying ways to minimize damage in the future and minimizing flood impacts to residents and businesses.

Fairfield Flood of 2010 Lattimer Real Estate Sign in waterOn February 10, 2011 the Passaic River Flood Advisory Commission issued its 15-point plan to mitigate the impact of floodings in Morris, Passaic and Bergen counties however, despite Fairfield's invitation and participation, the 15-point plan failed to address the present and future impacts of flooding in Fairfield.  Therefore, Fairfield's Mayor James Gasparini will hold a press conference on Tuesday, February 22, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers, located at the Municipal Building, 230 Fairfield Road in Fairfield, New Jersey and outline Fairfield's dissatisfaction with the lack of inclusion of Fairfield in the Passaic River Basin Flood Advisory Commission's recommendations.

Did they forget how Fairfield residents and business owners struggled to put their lives back together?  Have they forgotten about the 250 Fairfield homes that were affected, causing over 40 residents to be evacuated with help of the National Guard.  Amazingly, it looks like they did.  Perhaps The Passaic River Basin Flood Advisory Commission should read The Calm After the Storm....The 2010 Flood of Fairfield, New Jersey and I'm sure they will remember.
