Why are agents so scared of the market!!!

it seems as the media continues to discuss the slow down in the housing market, that many agents have decided to curl up in fetal position and hope to sleep out the slowing market.  I have not been able to understand why these agents do not understand for themselves that if they continue to train, learn and push forward, that they can still make a good living and sell many homes.  I have been teaching my agents the short sale process so we can continue to make the most of the credit and mortgage situation which has fallen upon us.  I think NAR really needs to make an advertising push to help secure peoples faith in the market and maybe to help educate the agents to better understand the changing market place.

Hide, never!!

My partner and I have taken this time to pad our listing inventory and press forward.  No matter how you slice it that $12 and hour job still does not look good.  We have a positive attitude and continue to look for people who need and want to sell or buy.

The first step is in getting agents to believe in themselves before they belive in the market. An agent who has no self belief will fail nor matter what market.

Personally I think most real estate agents are poor at networking.  The reason I say this is because I've never been approached by an agent, nor have any of my colleagues.  I know agents are contacted all the time by mortgage agents, but for some reason real estate agents think that their immune from referral partnerships, or only look at it as a one way street.

There are so many sources of business that real estate agents should be harvesting, but very few ever do.  I'm not sure if it's the fault of the "traditional" broker who just pushes them to go after FSBO's, or if their is an actual arrogance among some agents that makes them feel above everyone else in our industry.

Bottom line, if I was a real estate agent, I'd be doing exactly what the mortgage guy's are doing right now.  I would also consider speaking to insurance agents, financial planners and others who work with high end asset rich clients.  Who do you think can afford homes right now?

Now also would be a great time to help future retiree's plan their conversion from a higher end home to a smaller but more practical home. But that means you either have to fully understand retirement planning or find someone that does.
