I recently read a few posts from a few of our ActiveRain finest members and there appeared to be a common theme .. lack of professionalism and lacking compassion experiences from their fellow Realtors in the business.
As a Realtor and professional we wear many hats. But no where is it written that in order for a Realtor to represent their clients they need to act irresponsibly or without a kind heart.
I believe success comes to those who not only are business astute but know how to establish wonderful relationships and be the Realtor others love to do transactions. One must become the magnet that others are drawn towards because they have earned the reputation of doing their job, fun to work with, care about their clients and have a spirit of understanding. Our job is not to win a battle but to facilitate a negotiation by removing emotion and helping the parties mutually come to an agreement. It starts with the Realtors maintaining a professional atmosphere in communication with listening and respect.
Communication ... a common theme I read over and over. Very poor, no returned calls which results in frustration and most likely hampers the negotiation where a mistrust develops and failed opportunity. If an agent cannot communicate on the onset of an offer how in the world do you think this process will improve? Start out poor and the perception is will end poorly.
Compassion - not all things can be perfect at times and there are circumstances that may be present that deserve understanding. You never know what goes on behind the scenes in people's lives. Be cautious in jumping to conclusions and never leave feedback that is not professionally worded. A thought can be expressed without being blunt. Be the Realtor when discovering there is a problem to offer a helping hand instead of a stinging comment or attitude.
In this wonderful profession we have many opportunities. We can elect to be the best not only as a professional knowledgeable in the business but extends courtesies of returned calls and a caring heart.
