You Can Teach This Dog New Tricks

Real Estate Sales Representative with Realty Executive Midwest

Today has been one of those eye opening experiences where you take the things you have been taught over and over and over again and say wow, I get it. I just started reading the Unemployed Millionaire by Matt Morris and doing just a few of the little things that he suggests, like making the best of your time by listening to self help cd’s instead of talk radio or music.  As he states in the book no rock star ever paid his bills.

During the tornado that swept through my office at home Sunday night, I found a couple of cd’s that I received when I took a class on Integrity Selling.  The Speaker Ron Willingham states that one should work on establishing our emotional intelligence on a daily basis by reciting the three following phrases over and over while attempting to do one of these daily;

  1. Go to where you are afraid to go
  2. Do what you are afraid to do
  3. Ask what you have been afraid to ask

When the light bulb went on for me this morning, I was attending our office meeting where awards were being given out to the top producers for 2010.  Dawn McKenna and Bryan Bomba were 1 and 2 in the office with Dawn having approximately 69,000,000 in GCI and Bryan having approximately 67,000,000 each being their best years on record.

As soon as the meeting was over one of the agents pulls out the Case Shiller index numbers for Chicago and show’s me all of the doom and gloom in the report. As this agent is finishing up her best Glum from The Adventures of Gulliver  impersonation, another takes up where she left off.  “I can’t fathom doing $67,000,000 worth of business.  I shrugged my shoulders and continued what I was doing. ( Reading and posting in the Rain, no doubt I’m an addict).

As she walked away I got to thinking and comparing Dawn and Bryan with these two.  These two are very nice people  but are always over cautious to the point they won’t try new things or ideas.  Dawn and Bryan are the two of the most confident people I know and nothing intimidates them.  Coincidence? Nope, thank God because I might not have learned a very valuable lesson today.

Joe, you are so right, surround yourself with positive people, and winners, as long as they are ethical, as well.  To me the ethics are of importance, as we have some agents in any market who are very successful, but their ethics are, to put it mildly, borderline.  I want to sleep well at night ........

Joe, I have a picture of a lighthouse that I pass on the way to my car, on the bottom is says "the great the adversity, the brighter the light of opportunity", I read it each day as I am heading out and try to incorporate it into my day when I am having a trough time.
