Brother Wireless Printer

So I had been struggling along with my somewhat elderly HP All In One printer for a while now. And before I go on, let me tell you that you should NEVER buy an HP printer. The purpose of this blog is not to bash HP because honestly when it comes to PC’s, HP puts out a great product. However, their handling of printers is another story and one I will leave for a future blog so watch for that. At any rate, back to my new printer, which happens to be a Brother All In One Wireless (Model MFC-J270). It rocks! Now I had heard from some friends that setting up a wireless printer may not be the easiest thing to do. Of course, I am Geek Girl so this should be a snap. And for all intents and purposes it was. I was supposed to be able to use One-Touch setup from my router which didn’t seem to work but the “manual” setup was very quick and easy. That is provided you know your wireless network name and passcode, which of course I do so everything went quite smoothly. All of my computers found it without any trouble on the network. In fact I was even able to print directly from my Droid! Print quality is very good although I have mainly printed documents and not pictures. So I can’t speak on the quality of a print on actual photo paper. Overall, I recommend wireless printers in general and for light duty, this model is a champ.

Wireless is certainly the way to go if you have the ability and patience to get things working. I bought a wireless print router(?) a year ago and haven't had the nerve to try to get it set up since I already have a wireless router for internet and typically find adding one more piece of hardware to be a challenge! It would be so nice to have it available, however, that maybe I'll give it a try.

BTW, I have an HP P2015 that is wonderful and hasn't caused any issues in four years.

Hi Colleen, Wireless IS wonderful! I have to admit the quality of HP printers is not my issue...and whatever works for you when it comes to technology is what you should go with. BTW, I don't have a separate print router. I find it much easier to keep everything together on one.

Love wireless printing.  i would like wireless scanning.  I hate moving my laptop in to the other room to print or scan.  I do alot of my work right here in my living room, even though I have a home office.

Hi Karen - I wish I could do everything wirelessly!  I can't stand the look of wires (or the tangles).  Does the Brother have separate ink cartridges for colors?

Hi Chris, Yes wires can get cumbersome. And yes the Brother does have separate ink cartridges (I believe 4 in all) which is one of the things I love about it over the HP.

Hi Karen!  We had a Brother until it got taken out by a lightening strike just yards away from the window that it sat by.  We didn't replace it because we didn't need to, but I do miss those 4 separate cartidges!
