My teenager wants a car. Really badly. All of her friends have one. She wants a nice one that will impress everyone that sees her. Sounds expensive to old Dad. She expects me to pay for it.
When I tell her she is not getting the car of her dreams, she becomes very upset and starts yelling. "But I want it!". Tears flow.
I explain to her that no matter how much we want something, the numbers have to add up. If something costs $5, then we must come up with the $5. Simple. And the first rule is that we must pay for it ourselves. Period.
Maybe we need to explain these same basic rules to the teachers and their union in Wisconsin.
