San Antonio passes Dallas as the second largest city in Texas.

Yes, it is true. According the the 2010 Census and facts published in the San Antonio Express News, San Antonio is now the second largest Urban City in the state with a population of over 1.3 million residents. But San Antonio does not have a larger Metropolitan Statistical Area(MSA) as Dallas-Fort Worth Area which has 12 counties with 6.14 million people, and those "Dallas Cowboys" in Arlington, TX.  If we did have a larger MSA, San Antonio would be able to get a Professional Football team to play in the "Alamo Dome", which is hosting the 2011 NCAA men's basketball Southwest regional playoffs.   However, We love our "San Antonio Spurs", 4 Time NBA Champions. "GO SPURS GO"!!

Here are the numbers for the 10 Largest cities in Texas.
San Antonio Skyline View
Rank              City                             Population                Percent Increase
1                  Houston                        2,099,451                        7%
2                  San Antonio                  1,327,407                      16%
3                  Dallas                            1,197,816                        1%
4                  Austin                              790,390                      20%
5                  Fort Worth                       741,206                      39%
6                  El Paso                             649,121                      15%
7                  Arlington                          365,438                      10%
8                  Corpus Christi                  305,215                      10%
9                  Plano                                259,841                      17%
10                Laredo                              236,091                      34%

I am a native Texan, and have been a San Antonio resident for years. I never thought that San Antonio would over take Big "D", Dallas, TX in population. For years, and even now the military population was never included in those census numbers.  Yet, we have seen tremendous development and growth at Joint Base San Antonio, and the San Antonio Military Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston. TX.  San Antonio's growth was primarily due to the increase in the Hispanic and Non-anglo population.  The housing market in San Antonio is one of the strongest in the country with a median sales price of $145,000.  Look at our San Antonio Homes today!! We have about a 7 month inventory of homes in all price ranges for the first time buyers, the investors, move-up buyers, and luxury home buyers too.  If you are looking for your Home's Value in San Antonio, I will be glad to assist you with a customized report on your home.

San Antonio became the second largest city in Texas due it's diverse cultural and ethnic population growth. Mayor Castro has stated "that San Antonio is a look at America tomorrow, and it is an economically vibrant city, and other cities like it, represent the new Face of the American Dream". As one of the fastest growing cities in the country, San Antonio has a lot to offer all it's new residents. Spring is coming and Fiesta will be here in April.  See San Antonio's schedule for Fiesta and upcoming events.

I will be happy to provide all the information you need to buy or sell real estatein San Antonio, Helotes, Schertz-Cibolo, Boerne, Converse, and surrounding areas. As a US Army veteran and a premier real estate agent in San Antonio, I look forward to serving you for All Your Real Estate Needs and will be happy to help at any time.  Learn more about me, and visit any area in San Antonio, TX.

Hello Jerry:

Very interesting, indeed. What would suggest for your NFL team name?  Please enjoy the growth and sales opportunities.

That's a good question Brian. We had a semi-pro team years ago called "San Antonio Toros". We are still considered a small market by the NFL and NBA.

Jerry, I've been a Spurs fan ever since The Admiral joined the team :)  He graduated from USNA two years behind me.  San Antonio has a lot to offer for it's residents!

Wow, I wouldn't have expected San Antonio to surpass Dallas either.  Congratulations on the new ranking.  Maybe you will just have to wait a few more years for the pro-football team. :)

Thanks Sondra. You are right. These bragging rights are only temporary. We need a larger MSA than Dallas county to get that football team.

Great information about your hometown. We will be in San Antonio in April for our "Weddingmoon." Do have any suggestions for night life?

We have "vowed" (no pun intended) not to do any business while we are there. But I may want to talk to you in the future about expanding one of our business to the area.

Yes, Toni. You will be in town during Fiesta week. Check out the Fiesta schedule link in my blog above.  Other than that I would have to get with my daughter or my cousins to find out about the popular night spots.

Oh by the way Clark, I am looking for more military buyers right now. Due to BRAC, we are expecting about 9,000 before the year is out.

Jerry--we have been to San Antonio several times.  Love the history and restaurants. I had no idea that SA was the second largest city in Texas.  My brother lives in tiny Nazareth, Texas with 350 people. (in the panhandle)

Welcome to ActiveRain

PS  My husband is retired navy.  I notice that Bill Spear is grad of USNA.  Small world.

Yes Mary, it is a small world. Dallas does have a larger MCA which includes Fort Worth and all those surrounding counties. That makes Dallas a bigger market area for National TV.

Charita, I need to send you the Fiesta schedule for next month. I am sure your cousin has told you what an exciting time we have here for Fiesta.
