Are you in the Queue for a QR code?

QR Codes are finally catching on for real estate, but it is amazing how few people are taking the time to research them when there is so much data readily available.  For example, here on ActiveRain, there are already 1,000 posts about them.  If you go to Google, and type in "QR Code" you will currently find "about 42,600,000 results"!  If you try to narrow that down to "QR Codes for real estate", you still have 17,100 results and that number is probably going to be up a few hundred more by the time I post this blog!

With so much data already online, why do I feel compelled to post even more?  Because I hate seeing Realtor's "subscribe or pay for QR" code generators!  They are readily available for free!  For example, I use iGoogle as my homepage and downloaded the following:

One thing that should stand out immediately on this one is that it reminds you of other ways to use QR codes.  For example:

  • URL
  • Message
  • Phone
  • SMS
  • Email
Try these out and expand your horizons.  Remember, you probably don't have just one email or just one website, so why would you think you should only have one QR code?

That's great information -- I didn't realize you could generate the codes for free.  I would imagine you would have several codes for different scenarios and would be continually updating.  Is that how you see QR codes working?

Since I first started hearing about QR codes, I have tried to keep a pulse on my market.  So far, not one buyer or prospect that I have contacted has known what they are or how to access the information.  I am sure this will change in time.

One thing to think about is the shelf life of the QR code.  If it points to something specific and static, make sure it is done that way for a reason.  For example, think of it as a Tattoo.  How hard will it be to remove if something changes?

Thanks Mike!  For an example of how you can direct a QR code to a website or even a blog, I have created one for this blog.  It will be interesting to see how the search engines perceive QR codes for SEO.

There is no doubt that QR code usage is growing!  You can even incorporate your logo and pictures into the QR Code which is really cool.  Check out how we are using QR Codes http://www.prontomm.com.  Andy Lynn

I am waiting for someone to come out with QR codes that leave room in the center for a personal message.
