the Union Buster's song

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

My friend, Steve Rashid of Evanston has produced a song (he IS a songwriter, after all and owns a company called Woodside Avenue Music Productions), about the current governor's crisis in Wisconsin.

In case you've been living under a rock, the Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker, is trying to cure the state's 'shortfall' (not financial black hole) by busting the unions.  Which might be a good idea, if he was truly trying to bust the unions that were OVERcharging... but of the 10 unions functioning in Wisconsin, Governor Scott is only going after the 7 unions in the state, who are charging the least.

What about the other 3 unions, you ask?  I'm glad you asked... those are the 3 unions who donated to candidate Scott's gubernatorial campaign... (big surprise).  What does he think he's doing?  Running politics in the city of Chicaga!?

I thought the song was worth sharing, take a listen and see whatcha think.

Fight On, Wisconsin by SteveRashid

Have been watching this whole saga playing out in the news -- pretty embarrassing for Mr. Walker, I'd say.  Great song -- think you could get him to do one on Wednesday's saga in The 'Rain?  Such is . . .

Tish - I doubt anyone, other than Rainers, cares about Wednesday's saga.

Oh I think it's a great upheaval going on. I'm sad to hear about the 3 unions they are not targeting with the bill, but I believe they are teachers, firefighters and police? That makes sense to me...but too bad they were contributors.

I don't know if it's union busting, but the time for collective bargining is coming to an end. Merit pay is the future....as it should be. We can't afford it anymore. The pensions are ridiculous compared to market value and tenure lowers quality when we can ill afford for our students to get a less-than education.

When my son was in middle school I had to actually hire an attorney to get him out of an English class where his teacher showed up tipsy everyday and his grade moved from F to A and back again on a whim. She is still teaching...the adorable, energetic young teacher is working at TJ Maxx. Can't go on.

Compete on a real scale.

It's not good for the members either....regardless of what the union spokesmen say. My stepkid's step day (follow that?) worked for Boeing for 20 years putting one screw into a plane. He made a very nice living with salary and overtime...problem is when Boeing shut the Long Beach plant, he had no marketable skills worth the $25-ish/hour he had made. He has spent the last 10 years working 2 jobs to try and make up the difference....

20 years ago? He might have done something different as a career, made a different choice.

Sorry for the rant....but I'm watching all this with great hope.

Karen - I don't disagree with "merit pay"... I think that's a great idea, and the way it should be.  But this isn't really about financial crisis... there really doesn't appear to be a financial crisis.  Check out this link, to see Rachel Maddow connect the dots, and then see how you feel.

Oh I don't disagree that this is a great excuse to Union Bust...which I'm in favor of. Time for the "right to work" era to come in.

I love the folks that claim teachers have it "easy" and make "too much money". Go spend one week in a classroom for a nice life lesson!

Now that they have passed this in the Assembly it will be very interesting to see what the future holds there and in other states. I know CA has some interesting budget issues, considering we have one of the greatest contributions to US GDP you would think we could balance a budget!
