Who_shot_rock

Friday February 25, 2011 - May 22, 2011
New York Times reviewer, Ken Johnson wrote, “…to study images of Elvis Presley, Madonna and others when they were starting out is to marvel at the youth of those who created the huge global industry of today’s pop music.”

Who Shot Rock & Roll is the first major exhibition on rock and roll to put photographers in the foreground, acknowledging their creative and collaborative role in the history of rock music. The exhibition includes 175 works by more than 100 photographers, and covers the rock and roll era from the 1950s to the present, including some of the world’s most iconic images. It was organized by the prestigious Brooklyn Museum of Art and opened there to rave reviews and record-breaking attendance. The Columbia Museum of Art is the last stop on the nation-wide traveling tour. Admission is free on opening day, Friday, February 25, courtesy of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Organized and circulated by the Brooklyn Museum, with guest curator Gail Buckland.

Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds: The Koger Center

Friday February 25, 2011
If you were to closely examine the annals of modern pop music history, few creative forces have been more seminal or impacted the contemporary pop/urban genres as much as Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. In a relatively short time, he has reached icon status as a poignant tunesmith, prolific hit maker/producer, superstar recording artist, and revolutionary label owner. He is a statistical juggernaut, who keeps adding milestone after milestone to a legacy that seems to have no threshold or peak in sight. A 10-time Grammy winner with 11 solo albums of his own, Edmonds’ impeccably crafted explorations of love, romance and relationships have made an indelible imprint on the evolution of contemporary pop music throughout the world: over 125 Top-10 R&B and Pop hits, 42 #1’s R&B hits, and 51 Top-10 Pop hits (including 16 #1’s), which have produced single and album sales in excess of over 500 million units worldwide. John Mellencamp will hit Columbia and The Township Auditorium on February 26, 2011 on the first leg of his "No Better Than This" Tour. The multi-city tour, designed as a uniquely formatted "evening with," brings Mellencamp's music to theatre-sized venues, a rare opportunity to experience one of America's most iconic songwriters and performers in an intimate setting, highlighting all phases of his artistry.
