Keyboard Shortcuts for PCs - Chapter 1

Hello ActiveRainers,

I thought I'd share some really easy shortcuts to make life easier when navigating around the computer. Put your mouse away and start using those fingers!!

My FAVORITE and MOST USED keyboard shortcut is Control + C (copy) , Control + X (cut), and Control + V (paste). Once you get the hang of it, you'll see that it's pretty easy to do and saves quit a bit time - especially tasks where you're doing A LOT of copy/pasting. Soon you'll find that you're using these shortcuts without even thinking about it..

*Please note - when you see the "+" sign - that means that you press both keys at the same time!

CTRL+C: Copy

CTRL+X: Cut

CTRL+V: Paste

CTRL+Z: Undo

CTRL+B: Bold

CTRL+U: Underline

CTRL+I: Italic

F1: Help

CTRL+ESC: Open Start menu

ALT+TAB: Switch between open programs (ONE OF MY FAVES TOO!)

CTRL+PrtSc: Copying your screenshop - if you open any photo editing software and select Paste (or Control+V) - you'll get an image of your computer screen.

ALT+F4: Quit program

SHIFT+DELETE: Delete item permanently

Windows Logo+L: Lock the computer (without using CTRL+ALT+DELETE)

There are SO many keyboard shortcuts.. but I thought I'd start you off with the basics.

Homework: Practice your shortcuts - do it a few times in a row to get your brain to catch on and see how easy it is to do!

Stay tuned for Keyboard Shortcuts for PCs Chapter 2 next week!!

And don't worry - there's no test!!

Emily - I love shortcuts! One of my favs is Alt+PrintScreen which captures JUST the current window whereas PrintScreen button on it's own captures the whole desktop

Emily, I know some of these shortcuts, but you've opened my eyes to others.  I'm going to have to practice these and commit them to memory.

Emily ~ what a great list you have compiled.  I have printed it out for future use!  Thanks.
