Paper-less Challenge : It's about time
ActiveRain & Kodak issued their challenge to go paperless weeks ago: Paper-less Challenge
I intended to get a jump on it but I have to tell you I have NOT done a thing in the 25 days since the challenge was issued. Procrastination? You betcha! Here it is 11:25 PM on the 25th and I am just starting to write the post due at midnight.
Not that I have not thought about it. My office looks like this:
I moved upstairs to this office 3 or 4 years ago. Perhaps longer ago. I moved from a larger office on the first floor that flooded in heavy rain. I left behind a huge piece of furniture that housed most of my files. The files are in piles on the floor here.... I am so close to take this picture of the office you can not see them. I have never really used this office. It is just a huge file cabinet really. I meet clients at the office in a conference room.
I pay a monthly fee for this office. I should have packed up and moved out years ago. The old computer has not been used in years. The office is caught in time.
Although I have basically used this small room as a filing cabinet for the last few years it is time for things to change. We are moving. Our building is sold. We are moving from 6902 N. High St., Worthington, Ohio to 681 High St. Worthington Ohio 43085 in about two months.
My plans include:
- Use a scanner to electronically file all old notes, documents and contracts from closings
- Set up an e-fax number so you receive faxes electronically - I had this let it lapse a couple of years ago
- Use a scanner to scan the entire file at the completion of future transactions
It's about time
It is not just me that needs to scan files, shred files and make things much, much smaller. Everyone in my office needs to get a handle on the paper and move onto the future and a smaller office space in a very short period of time.
This is our new office at 681 High St, Worthington Ohio. It is the oldest commercial buildling continually in use in the state of Ohio. I hope to move there with little to no paper. What would be the point of moving old paper?
Worthington Ohio, the real estate office of the future has quite a past. The Kilbourne Commercial Building was built in 1847 and it has been a home, an Inn, a newspaper office, a funeral home, a store and more over time. April 2011 a real estate office.
Paper-less Challenge
"This post is written as a submission to the ActiveRain & Kodak Paper-less Challenge contest. I have the chance to win the high speed KODAK SCANMATE i1120 Scanner, great for helping real estate professionals reduce their stacks of paper by scanning contracts, photos and business cards in seconds."
