See Anasazi Petroglyphs in southern Utah

My husband discovered these petroglyphs on top of some huge sandstone boulders located in the Stone Cliff community in St. George, Utah.

Some of the images have faded away but these do remain. They are becoming worn away by the weather, due to intense sun, wind or pounding rains.

According to several sources, the Anasazi people existed in southern Utah, building small structures, farming the land and living in peace among themselves.

Bisected circles, spirals, animals and humans were among the many designs of their handiwork. Unfortunately these drawings will eventually disappear but at least I was able to capture them to share with all of you.

........................................

These petroglyphs were found at Stone Cliff in St. George, Utah, a gated community that sits high upon a sandstone bluff in Washington County. Wanda, there is such a rich, and unknown to most people, history of the Anasazi.  Helen and I visited a remote site a couple of hours outside Phoenix years ago, and have been fascinated with them, their rise and their fall, ever since.  Thank you for sharing this with us.

I love running across these as well in areas such as Valley of Fire or Red Rock conservation area.  A piece of our history waiting for our connection. Thanks for publishing the photos! You made me want to go out hiking again.  It's been a while.

Chris, I know where there are more and plan to go and take more photos of those as well.

Rocky, I hope you do go hiking and take some shots and share them!

Craig, I enjoy it when I can share things like this...it definitely deserves that!

Bill, There were so many images but they disappeared...they were quite the artists too!

Gerry, There are many places in southern Utah where petroglyphs exist but unfortunately there is no way to preserve them so they just disappear.

Tom, Lake Powell is 3 hours from where I live and is a great vacation area! Time is lost when you're there!

Wanda, What a great find and thanks for sharing with us.  Years ago while in NM I visited a cliff dwelling of the Anasazi and saw many petroglyphs.  They were so in tune with the earth and sky.
