Wesley Chapel Elementary Wesley Chapel NC is located on the site of one of the oldest schools in Union County. A school was located there as early as 1832, part of the adjacent Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. In 1901, one of the first rural graded high schools in North Carolina was established on the site. The high school building was destroyed by fire in 1951 and rebuilt in 1952. This building was renovated and an addition completed in 1989.
Wesley Chapel has grown and shrunk several times during the 1990s as part of Union County’s spectacular growth. Enrollment would grow to 1000 students and then shrink again to approximately 500 students as new elementary schools were built and reassignments made to the new schools. Recent renovations to the cafeteria and media center plus two new classroom wings modernized the school since 2006.
Wesley Chapel includes grades kindergarten through fifth grade and operates on a traditional calendar. During the 2009-10 school year, the school had approximately 539 students. Wesley Chapel was designated an Honor School of Excellence with Expected Growth in 2009-10.
