Reheasal for the Follies in Sandpoint, Idaho: Sandpoint Blog

This last week we had our rehearsal at the event center for the Follies. See pictures of our antics below.

The Follies is one of several events put on by Angels Over Sandpoint. The Angels Over Sandpoint is a non-profit (501c3) organization that helps needy Bonner County individuals. The Angels provide backpacks and school supplies to over 800 children annually. Other events include The Follies (a racy live variety show), Spring Mud Fling Dance, and the New Year's Eve Dance and Auction (because raising money should be fun!).

According to their website this event is loads of fun and a little bit naughty. "It's time for your favorite Angels' event guaranteed to chase away the Winter blahs. Get in line for THE FOLLIES, a locally produced comedy review held for the 9th year at the Panida Theater on March 4th and 5th, 2011. Come enjoy your talented friends and neighbors as they celebrate the MARDI GRAS season with abandon. Sip on a special martini, wear your masks and beads and remember all money raised goes to the Angels Over Sandpoint to support their efforts to improve the lives of Bonner County residents in need. Tickets are $25 and the fun starts at 8:00pm. You must be over 21 to attend and remember, this show "is not for the easily offended"! Tickets are available at Eve's Leaves, Eichardts, Petal Talk and Sandpoint Online. This show sells out every year, so grab a friend and buy your tickets. You won't be disappointed!"

Trish Gannon reported in this article in River Journal that the Angels began with the death of a friend. "The idea for the Angels started when Kathy Pelland was killed in a car accident on the Long Bridge back in 1997, and a group of her friends, in mourning, decided to honor her memory by doing what she had done best-helping other people. They give money to those who need it, cut and deliver firewood for those who don't have the resources to do so themselves, provide home-cooked meals or other support as is necessary, and are there for many who would otherwise have nowhere else to turn. They even help to fund an annual scholarship, in partnership with the Festival at Sandpoint, for an area student with a talent in the arts."
