Spring Melt Means Trouble

Spring Melt Means Trouble

Spring melt

Snow, snow, snow go away. Ten inches of snow over the weekend followed by warm temperatures and heavy rain mean trouble ahead.

Over the years we have rebuilt this foot bridge over Trout Run several times.  This morning the water was lapping at the bottom of the bridge, but this evening it was rolling over the top.

Compare these two shots taken six months apart.  Can you believe it's the same stream?

  Summer . . .summer trickle

   Winter . . .Winterrampage

Here's hoping that the bridge is still there in the morning.

Morning follow up:  Bridge survived but Basement Flooded.

Hey Mary,

That winter runoff will get you every time. Looks like you'll have a job again in the spring.

Richard--You are right water is very powerful with a mind of its own.  Well, we might get more experience building a bridge.

Mary, what great shots. Hope your bridge is still there in the morning.  But you did give me an idea, think I am going to take "season" shots at some places around town.  Good Luck.

Mary, We experienced some extreme rains back in December and water has a way of making a new path when it get rushing like that and is being fed. Hope you get a break from the weather!

Mary, flooding is of grave concern, I hope we have a few days here of slow melt for a change. Wild weather causes wild outcomes!

Hope your bridge is still there this morning.

We sure had a lot of snow this year -- and that means a lot of melt off.  I am listening to my sump pump run all of the time!
