This post is inspired by Evil Rich's post today on an agent in a neighborhood who was abducted and robbed, while trimming trees. I say he was very, very lucky.
Do you have a safety net ?
Most of the time, my TEAM in Ann Arbor, Mi. and I show homes to people we know or have been in contact with. But, ever so often that is not the case. Maybe I go on a listing appointment where I preview the home and don't really know the client.
Here is how I handle it if I don't know the person or the neighborhood is less than desirable. I use a "secret code". My assistant is to call me 5 minutes after the appointment is to begin. She knows in advance the address of where I am going.
At 5 minutes after I am in the house, she will call. IF I say, "Betty, I'm so glad you called, will you tell Mike ( my husband ) to please pick the dogs up at the groomer?"
That means Get the police to this address ASAP. If I don't answer my cell phone she is also to send the police.
I have had a few scary appointments, but nothing that required her to send help. BUT, several times I have told her to call back in a few minutes.
If I am unsure, I will have her call me back and I say that I am previewing a home and can she call back in a few minutes? If things are OK, I just laugh and tell the client. They laugh too.
Now that I have posted my code I will have to change my code sentence. But, you are worth it.
Don't take chances, it is one deal, Your life is more than worth one deal. Tell a secret.
