Tuesday's Treasures

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with ActiveRain, Community Manager

In honor of Steve Hoffacker's new Tuesday's Treasures group I'm sharing one of my many treasures; my Pops.

He's an original New Yorker and the funniest guy you'll ever meet.  He had his own NY Deli for many years when I was a kid....I remember Monday night's dinner and thinking "Oh man, meatloaf again?!?!?  Or come on dad, can't we have Mac 'n Cheese instead of veal cutlets?...where's the dog?"  When we had to get papers signed for class, he'd say "Big or small"...."Um, just regular dad"....he would either autograph it extremely large or exceptionally small.  He'd always let us steer or shift his truck and every single Valentine's Day he asks each of his 3 daughters and his wife of 39 years if we'll be his Valentine.

As I've grown older I cherish him more and more.  He recently hosted a poker party for his friends, my friends, everyone was welcome....I get my "the more the merrier" attitude from my selfless, amazing dad.

I love my dad and cherish him as a true treasure.

Kerrie, My Dad (originally from Norway) lived on Long island for YEARS.  All the good Dad's must be from New York, lol.

I have no doubt that your Dad is a fine man...look at what a beautiful soul and tender heart you have.   That's learned my sweet friend.  You truly are one in a million.  I'm sure your Dad looks at you with a glimmer in his eye, so darn proud to have raised such an incredible human that spreads joy each day to many :)

Kerrie, my dad was my HERO. Actually, still is even though he's gone. I asked him to find me the "right guy" when he was dying. He did. My (now) husband's birthday is my parent's wedding day. That is a sign that doesn't get much clearer.

As a result, we chose that day to get married in his honor. I never forget that our anniversary is theirs AND my husband's birthday!

The dads in our lives give us our business acumen or guidance, is what I've heard. I believe that was one of the MANY gifts my father gave me.

Kerrie:  Thanks so much for sharing your "Pops" with us.  He seems to be a really great guy.  It is also very obvious that you are "your father's daughter."  I am sure he is very, very proud of you.

It must be an "Eastern" thing, cuz I always called my Dad... "Pop"... as did the rest of us kids.  I would walk in... see him... and say "Hi Pop !"  And, every time... he'd answer... "I'll "pop" ya !"  It was a "family thing."  <smile>

While you still have your dad to cherish, make sure you interview him, find out about his life, his loves, his disappointments, his successes…. Write them down so you’ll have even more memories when he’s gone. My dad died when I was six, so I have no good memories of him.
