March is Dog Sled Month in Fairbanks Alaska
All Northern Eyes are on Fairbanks Alaska this March when a variety of races and contests are held in the Dog Sledding competitions.
March 18 -20the 2011 marks this years GCI Open North American Championship Dog Sled Race starting in Fairbanks Alaska. The winning prize is over $25,000 to be awarded to the participant that competes in the three day event traversing over 70 miles.
Surrounding the main event are other smaller contests, heats, races and festivities. After the race awards will be presented at the Westmark Hotel in Fairbanks. The annual Jeff Studdert Passenger race where one person rides in the basket to the halfway point then switches with the driver for the return trip. The races continues on Saturday and Sunday with the North Pole Championships at Star of the North Charter School and the Morning Star Ball fields in North Pole.
Fairbanks is known for dog sled races and the open event is the fastest dog sled race in the world. With events for all ages, this is truly a site worth seeing if you are in the Fairbanks or North Pole area the third week of March.
