Have You Ever Been To A Redbud Festival?

Redbud TreeI see some of the cool nature scenes upcoming around the country like the cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C. and think to myself what does our prairie like landscaping with many former cotton fields which are FLAT have to offer for a visitor to North Texas? Well in addition to our roadside blue Bluebonnets that are soon to be sprouting up everywhere (the State flower) along with other wildflowers, one tree that SCREAMS spring is here for at least a few weeks is the

           REDBUD.

It has brilliant red or pink buds prior to the leaves turning green and if you think nature doesn't have its cycle even around here you are not opening your eyes. The tulips and the daffodils sprout up around here too almost like clockwork in the gardens!

Anyway on the calendar planning for April in the city of Denton, a short drive north from either Dallas or Ft. Worth is a festival to be aware of.

Redbud Festival

The 17th Annual Denton Redbud Festival

Sat. April 9th Denton Civic Center 321 E. McKinney Street Denton          10 am- 4 pm FREE

60 booths, tree and plant sales, gardening products, landscaping and home improvement items, food booths, outdoor pottery, birdhouses, sunrooms, wind chimes, Kids Zone with Bounce House. recycling relay races, environmental and educational activities.

Workshops on home improvement, attracting wild birds to your backyard, organic gardening, making your home more energy efficient, ALL FREE

Also, a FREE Xeriscape (low or no water) landscaping class that requires registration to Kara Robertson at

940-349-8172

The proceeds from this festival go to a good cause too, the Keep Denton Beautiful non-profit that focuses on litter prevention, community beautification and educational programs. This festival is an official Arbor Day event. You remember Arbor Day don't you?

If you want to be an inside or outside or food vendor here is the vendor information.

Looks like a VERY FUN way to spend a Saturday in April, inside, outside and in classes. Oh, and eating some tasty food too. We're pretty friendly here in Texas, so I'll see you there if you're in the neighborhood!!!

Gary,

My mother-in-law recently moved from Denton to Colorado Springs.  Although she loves the Redbud, the allergies aren't worth it.  Nevertheless, very gorgeous indeed... g

Robert: Getting almost in full force in Texas. We start early here of course once we get past that last possible freeze (average) around March 17th.

Lizette: I love the variety around the country of things that POP OUT for us at springtime.

Sondra: Snow? I know, mountain country. I know people in NEBRASKA who don't even think of spring till about the end of May LOL.

Hi Gary - I was not familiar with any Redbud festivals until now.  It is very worthy for you to promote.

The Cherry Blossoms in DC are extremely popular.  Even CNN gives updates of the progress of the cherry blossoming at the right time of year.
