Learn From the Burn. I've been Yahoo'd.

stressed out

We all have several email boxes that we use. I use Yahoo for larger files and most of my everyday mail as I can access it no matter where I am. A couple months ago my pc was running pretty slow and when I went into my Yahoo mail it said I had 0 sent files. Of course I had 5 years worth of files on there but it showed zero. I emailed Yahoo who think I probably deleted them accidentally. Ok...there is no delete "all" button on Yahoo so I would have had to hit delete over a thousand times to get rid of them all. I probably would have remembered that. Not wanting to argue I said it didn't matter why they were gone. let's just put them back. Lesson Two...Once they are gone there is no getting them back. I do copy to disk every year but this was in October so I still lost all of my Sent emails from Jan 1 thru Oct 10. Yikes. Up to this day I thought Yahoo was pretty reliable service and have never had issue in 5 years of use. I am not crying over spilled milk but trying to prevent others from making the same mistake I made. While normally 99% reliable, that other 1% can do quite a bit of damage. Probably should back up your emails a little more frequently (I now do mine monthly). It would amaze you how many times I have wanted to look back at what was said in a email that is gone forever so take a few minutes and copy all of your emails to disc or external hard drive. You may be very glad you did. Best of luck and thanks for reading.

Randy, I also have a Yahoo account but I do not use it as my main account. I do use my HotMail for the same reason as you, I can access it from anywhere. My question is why is one year old mail important? I'm not trying to be funny, I would like to know if I'm missing a marketing opportunity or something? I'd almost consider it a favor if I lost all those emails because like my pack rat behavior in real like I doubt I'm ever going to use them.

I have every email I have ever sent or received (with the exception of the lost files). Just in case something comes up on a parcel I sold a few years back I can go in and freshen my memory before calling them back. Quite often when emailing a client I tell them to be sure to get inspections or surveys and keep their response in case I am ever challenged. It takes only a small amount of space on a CD and gives me huge peace of mind. Have a great day Bob.

Randy - I have Carbonite to backup my entire hard drive, including docs and photos but old e-mails from over a year old ..... I don't think I have EVER needed one.

Randy--I never thought of keeping all my mail.  I delete old stuff once a week.  Guess I would or could be in deep trouble.  I do make copies of e-mails relating to transactions I am working on.

Probably overkill but if I ever have questions about a transaction I have all correspondence at my fingertips. Rarely do I go back a year but the info is there should I need to. What Yahoo lost was the last 8 months which I have tried looking into several times. One was trying to find an old sign quote and another was for a client on Facebook. I had worked with them in the spring and wanted to refresh my memory before contacting them. Nothing I can't live without but would have liked the opportunity to save before they were deleted.
