There are so many forms of Yoga in the modern world. Some focus on strengthen your body, learning to still your mind and body, some bring spiritual awareness and help find your inner spirit guide.  It's important that you find the method of Yoga that is right for you.  Traditionally, Yoga was used for realizing the union of the individual and the universal, rather then today's idea of strengthen and stretching your muscles, which is just fine if that is what you seek and feel good after your sessions. Again, you need to find and utilize what works for you. Laura Cerrano of Feng Shui Long Island NY is taking Yoga Classes at St.Joseph's College in Patchogue NY. This kind of Yoga is called Nindra Yoga.

Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice that is intended to induce full body relaxation. and a deep meditative state of consciousness holistically addressing our mind body, and spirit. During a typical class, a variety of techniques like guided imagery and body canning are used to aid relaxation. All you have to do is lie on a yoga mat, close our eyes and follow the guided instructions.

Before coming to Nidra Yoga, Laura started with Shabd Meditation which was a great introduction to the traditional Yoga meditation methods. Her teachers taught her how to still the body, mind, and spirit. Shabad Meditation explained the scientific and spiritual process of what you go through when first become aware of meditation. It also teaches you how to approach the positive and negative changes that come into your life.

If you live on Long Island NY and would like to try Nidra Yoga, St.Josheph offers that class starting at 12:40pm.

Nidra Yoga sounds fascinating Laura. I took about three different styles of Yoga last year and loved the work in the flexibility area. This one sounds so meditative. Good luck with it.

Hey Gary,

Thanks, I also took Yoga back when studying in New Paltz. What I really liked about my class was that my teacher focused on both, Meditative and strength/flexibility.  I feel it's good to have a mixture of both, some days you may feel like not sitting and moving instead :)

Laura, I didn't realize there are several different types of yoga.  Yoga Nidra sounds quite interesting.  Yoga is something that I have always wanted to try. I'm going to have to do that someday.  Good info.
