New Hampshire Winter

New Hampshire home sales slightly up in January 2011

Despite a frigid and snowy New Hampshire winter, sales in the state increased marginally in the first month of the year over the same period from a year ago, marking the second straight January that has seen a monthly uptick in residential homes sold.

New Hampshire experienced a lot of snow this winter, but January showed a slight increase over the same period from a year ago.   According to data released by the New Hampshire Association of REALTORS (NHAR), there were 543 homes sold in January 2011.  This was an increase of  2.1 percent over the 532 sold in the first month of 2010.  The median price dipped by 3.9 percent, from $215,000 in January 2010 to $206,600 in January  2011.

In 7 out of the state's 10 counties unit sales increases in January compared to a year ago.  There was a 67 percent jump in Carroll County, 8.1 percent in Merrimack County and 4.5 percent in Chesire County.   The state's largest county, Hillsborough, experienced a 1.3 percent sales increase.  Median prices saw an increase in four out of the 10 counties.

The snow is starting to melt, the birds are singing and the spring will be here any day!

New Hampshire was chosen as the Most Livable State in America! The Safest State in America, 2010. and the Fifth Healthiest State in America!

Hi Joan, How are you! I think of you often. A small increase in sales and a small decrease in price seems to be the new normal. But I feel like it is still possible this year that we will see some bigger swings in sales going up and prices holding steady or increasing. Fingers crossed! :-)

Jeanne ~  I think we will see more foreclosures as well.  The phones are starting to ring and the snow is melting so I remain cautiously optimistic.

George ~  Please send more sun our way.  The past 2 days it has been melting and I am loving it!  Spring cannot come soon enough for me and most people I know in So. NH.

Leilani ~  I find tracking the statistics very intersting an informative.  We are seeing some positive signs and I hope it will continue.

William ~ Thanks for stopping by and for keeping me in your thoughts.  I have had a lot of challenges, but am doing well.  I am keeping my fingers crossed too and am cautiously optimisitic that after all the ups and downs, we will end up with more ups.  Hope you are well my friend.

Hi Joan that is terrific news, now if this could be the case in all markets that would be a wonderful thing.

Have a great week.

Joan, There is optimism in the air which will help when the snow is totally gone and the spring is in full bloom.  Great information for your area.

Jennifer - I am sending good vibes your way.  You should see buyers and seller lining up for the spring market.

Michael ~  We are all so done with winter... Too much snow and too long of a winter for most this year.  The market does seem to be heating up!

Janice ~  We are hearing there will be more foreclosures, but hopefully, not as many as in the past couple of years.

Gloria ~  The more the snow melts the more optimistic everyone becomes!  Hope you are doing well.

Our home sales here always seem to fall in January since that is our rainiest month. People stay home.
