I thought I would put together some fun and interesting facts about Mora.  Some are the usual, and some are very unusual!  Besides, if all of my blogs were about real estate in Mora Minnesota, they would get old pretty quickly!   Enjoy!Dala Horse in Mora

  1. Mora's most recent population poll came in at 3,193.  It's a wonderful small town located 62 miles north of Minneapolis, and about 47 miles northeast of St. Cloud.
  2. In Mora, about 49% of adults are married. A relatively large number of people in Mora live by themselves. The city is known for its large population of single adults.  (I would have never known!)

  3. In the general election of 1882, the county seat was voted to be moved from Brunswick to the new village of Mora by a vote of 166 for and 2 against.  I'd say that's definitely majority!

Mora donates more money to the Democratic party overall than the Republican party.  However, in the 2004 election, George Bush raised more money in Kanabec County than John Kerry.

Party

Contributions

Democratic

$1,500

Republican

$850

Approximately 90% of Mora residents commute to work.  That's huge!  I consider myself lucky to be in that 10% that doesn't have to commute!

Despite our pride in everything Swedish, most Mora residents are actually German!  27.5% of us, in fact.  Swedish follows closely behind with 20.1% of the population, and the second largest location of ancestry is Norwegian at 11.5%.

Mora Secondary School, which houses grades 7-12, has approximately 900 students.  Class sizes range between 130-150 typically.     Kanabec County Courthouse

The site of our courthouse, which was originally built in 1894, was purchased in March of 1883 for $100.  Don't you wish you could buy an entire block for $100 now?

The median family income in Mora is approximately $40,500.  I wonder what it is when you factor in our commuting costs?

45% of the population in Mora rents instead of owns a home.  65% of residences in Mora are owner-occupied.  (I'll help you stop throwing money away into rentals!  Call me and I'll find you a house!)
