Bruce and Sharon - I have an interest of genealogy.  And as it turns out, my great great grandfather, Andrew Jackson Heady was born Noveber 13, 1821 in Hamilton County, Indiana.

His son, my great grandfather, Alfred Tennyson Heady, was also born in Hamilton County, Indiana on March 31st 1844.
During the Civil War, he enlisted in Co. E, 1st Ind. heavy artillery and passed through the war, veteranising and seeing and experiencing the closing acts of the rebellion. He was wounded at Camp Ryland, Louisiana, April 13, 1863, by gunshot wound in the left thigh and was sent to Morgan City hospital where he remained until finally disposed of in the Barracks hospital in New Orleans. He almost lost his life by complications before his wound finally healed but rejoined his regiment and re-enlisted for the remainder of the war when his first enlistment expired. He passed through so much hard service and was such a brave soldier that his company and regimental officers united in recommending him to Governor Morton for a commission in the regular army should he desire to join that establishment after his release from the volunteer service. He finally determined on civil instead of military pursuits and returned to the farm from whence he came.  There is also his enlistment record of his serving in the Civil War for Company K, 21st Indiana Heavy Artillery, dated July 6, 1861.

I don't know why but your picture catapaulted me back to a time when many of my ancestors lived and occupied Indiana.  Some of them still do.  My great great grandfather eventually moved to Kansas in the 1869.   His son Alfred, moving there in his father's later years to care for him.

Myrl, thanks so much for sharing the story of your ancestors with us!  Wow!  You can tell what an impact General Andrew Jackson had upon your great great great grandfather and grandmother to name their son after the hero of the Battle of New Orleans(only SIX years before your great great grandfather's birth!!!)

He was very fortunate to survive his wounds.  Germs, infection, and disease always caused more deaths for soldiers than enemy bullets until World War I.

There was a very successful high head basketball coach with the last name of Heady who had some teams that did very well in the Indiana state basketball tournement.

Leilani, the Tippecanoe Battlefield should be very active this fall as we remember the BICENTENNIAL OF THE BATTLE OF TIPPECANOE!  (I remember celebrating the sesquicentennial-see how old I am!) ^_~
