This may be a bit of a rant but I cant help the urge to just let it out. Early Saturday I'm doing a little bit of social media house cleaning, Updating my Twitter, Facebook and Blog. Fixing a few website issues etc. So imagine my utter surprise and absolute disgust when I'm going thru my Application permissions on Facebook and I see that BY DEFAULT certain apps have the craziest ability to see everything about me and even login as me or my page.

Why would an application need to "Manage my pages and login as one of my Pages" and "access my data when I'm not using the application" Why would they need access to my friends birthdays, Religion and Political Views.  This is a Real Estate APP not Big Brother.

I know we live in a crazy social media connected universe where our info is not safa and the whole point of social media marketing is to get as much exposure for your brand, product or pitch. But giving apps "By Default" this type of access seems wrong to me.
Shouldn’t they ask us first or disclose upfront the reasons why they need this access. I get that some of these apps are FREE and in order to remain free they need to monetize some things. But this is just plain wrong.

I'm not singling out ROOST for any reason. I've found that 8 out of 10 apps have this same default setting. Just was a bit shocked.

Ok, now that you're just as freaked out as I am. What do you do next?

1. Login to facebook

2. Go to your privacy setting "Application premissions"

3. Click on each APP and disable or remove any premission your're not comfortable with.

4. Thats it until you give another app access.

DISCLOSURE - I'm not 100% sure if removing certain default premissions will disable these apps. I really dont care. I'm pissed that these setting are set this way by default.

I noticed this with alot of game apps on FB that all my friends love. When I read what I would be giving up when allowing these apps, I said No.

Renee - The only reason why I started checking my app access is because of a game request I got the other day. I gave in and tried it out. 2 Days later i deleted the app and now I've gotten 4 emails to my personal facebook email with offers.

It's ridiculous how much they can access. Why do you think Corporate America has jumped in his head first on SOCIAL MEDIA?!! For this reason.... They use to pay mega millions to companies to get the info. Now, SOCIAL Media craze, just gives it out....

Everyone should be aware.... when allowing aps> freedom to your personal data~

The Default Settings will ALWAYS favor the App, or Facebook.

It is important to check all of your Settings at regular intervals.  Facebook has been known to change your Settings without your knowledge or permission.

I remember when I used to work for Yahoo and advertisiers would pay dearly for Behavioral targeting of their ads. Now Facebook has 500,000,000 people by their "Behaviors" and advertisers are drooling
