The Palm Springs Alexander Weekend is scheduled for March 25 - 27, 2011, offering two distinct modern home tours. Although the tours will feature numerous properties, one stand out residence is The Elvis and Priscilla Presley Honeymoon House in Vista Las Palmas. Once billed as "The House of Tomorrow" this significant mid-century modern abode was built and owned by Robert and Helene Alexander and distinctly designed by Bill Krisel. The House of Tomorrow is a retro utopia.

In 1966 Elvis Presley leased the property for one year at the urging of his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The Colonel thought it would be the perfect place for Elvis to relax, escape celebrity and entertain friends. In April 1967, Priscilla Beaulieu arrived for a visit with her entire family giving Palm Springs neighbor, Rona Barrett, much to gossip about. Word leaked that Elvis and Priscilla were about to be married.

Media coverage was overwhelming and soon after her arrival, Elvis and Priscilla were married in Las Vegas on May 1, 1967. Later that day the two returned to Palm Springs where Elvis carried Priscilla over the threshold of the famed House of Tomorrow while singing "The Hawaiian Wedding Song." Exactly nine months later on February 1, 1968, Lisa Marie was born.

The Honeymoon House has been restored to its original 1960 splendor and offers capacity to entertain 180 guests. The house features significant design and furnishings from the period throughout. The estate's secluded grounds include a large pool with stage, private garden and tennis court. It is available as a vacation rental or location. Visit the property's website, www.elvishoneymoon.com, or call (760) 322-1192 for more information.

The House of Tomorrow will be featured on the Saturday Modernist Home Tour of Alexander Weekend in Palm Springs. Ticket prices for that event are $85. A Modernist Home Tour is also scheduled for Sunday that will not include The Honeymoon House. Tickets for Sunday's tour are $45. A pass for all Alexander Weekend events can be purchased for $165. Alexander Weekend tickets can be purchased on The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation website, www.pspreservationfoundation.org, or by calling (760) 837-7117.
