Spring Hill Waterfall - Landmark in Need of Help!

Since the beginning of the development of Spring Hill, Florida in the sixties, the Spring Hill waterfall at the intersection of US 19 and Spring Hill Drive has been a familiar landmark in Spring Hill to residents and visitors alike.

Spring Hill Florida Waterfall by Silvia Dukes

While the surrounding landscaping of the landmark is being cared for by the Spring Hill Garden Club, the Spring Hill waterfall itself has been operated by Hernando County.  Unfortunately, because of budget cuts, the County can no longer pay for the upkeep and operation of the waterfall and so the water at the landmark has stopped flowing.

The Spring Hill Garden Club is organizing various fundraisers and public awareness campaigns in an effort to "Save our Waterfall" and raise enough funds to keep operating this familiar landmark.

If you like to help by volunteering or making a donation, please contact the Spring Hill Garden Club at (352) 683-9933.

Silvia, What a good idea to keep the waterfall flowing. In the Phoenix area I have noticed many landmarks not being kept up as well as in the past because of budget cuts. One of the most noticable is that many HOAs and cities are not doing winter grass this year, to save on water and money. A good idea but I do miss the green.

Silvia,

The Spring Hill waterfall sounds like such a worthy community project. Wish you all the best in the local sponsorship drive.

Joan, we all hope so too!

Deanna, volunteers and community groups are stepping in in many places where municipalities are forced to stop maintenance because of budget crunches.

Steve, it's been around for over 40 years!

Leesa, many people in the community feel that way.

Laura, I agree, many directions around here include "turn at the waterfall"....

Hope they are able to raise the necessary financial resources to keep it going. Most of our waterfalls stopped running when we entered a Level II Drought Alert.
