Quick tip to save money on heating and cooling

The hole in the wall from the wire to your thermostat is probably channeling cold or hot air behind it, so use some caulk to fill the hole and your furnace or central air will cycle less often. Hollow interior walls move air around your house through convection (hot air rising and cold air falling) so most likely there is a stream of hot or cold air channeling through the wire hole and into the thermostat device. New programmable electronic thermostats are especially susceptible to this as they are accurate to within one degree, so any abrupt movement of hot or cold air past the sensor will trigger it to run.

Thanks for the info!  I'll be sure to check my thermostat and pass this on to my clients!
