Ice Out on the Pemigewasset River Woodstock NH

By

The Ice let go last night and it piled up high and deep.

Hard to tell from the house looking back towards the river...but that huge pile of ice slabs beyond the trees, are 20 plus feet of ice jammed.

Can to believe this is a shot of the same spot (of the above picture) five months before...October Birch trees with the hint of the river in the back ground.

The ice is several hundred feet across and stacked slab on slab.

The course of the river has temporary (I hope) shifted 300 hundred feet north.

When it gets a bit warmer out, I'll get out and take some cool close ups of this great ice migration.

October fall foliage bridge...6 months prior...what a difference a few months make.

I'm looking forward to sharing some more White Mountain photos...new snow tonight means more skiing this weekend. Big race and fundraiser for the handicapped adaptive program this weekend at Loon Mt. More about the event in the next few days.

Steve, nothing like that around here.  In fact with all the rain and warm weather that we have had, there is very little left of anything frozen or white.

Steve, to echo George...there's absolutely nothing like that here...even earlier this year when we did get snow.  So the top two photos is the view from the Loynd's back porch???  Nice...

George...We got a ton of rain and then it turned back to snow, the far north towns got over 27 inches of snow last night alone.

Nick, The North country received over 70 inches of snow in February (alone)...this has been an incredible winter and we always get some late snow falls in March and April.

Steve - I was just up in Stowe, VT and it looked much like this. Hang in there, it won't be long before the ice melts and we start seeing "green" again!

Steve, That is cool, it is amazing what power nature has to unleash!  I would bet those ice slabs can cause a lot of damage once they start to move and before they melt.

Thanks All: If I can manage a day off this week I'll get down to the ice slabs and get some close ups.

Steve, WOW that was a lot of snow.  What a difference a few miles make.  You guys get up to 27" of snow up there, and we probably had 27" melt away during the same time :)

The "ice let go" around here yesterday too...only it was the ice on the roof.  A huge slab fell and snapped the backs off two of our lounge chairs and split several burning bush in half.

We get some ice dams in the Grand River and it causes some flooding. Spring weather will fix all that. thanks for the photos.
