I just finished reading a book review by Tara-Nicholle Nelson with Inman News on "The Price of Everything: Solving the Mystery of Why We Pay What We Do" Author: Eduardo Porter. Here's a link to the entire article if you want to read that before reading my thoughts.

There is definitely lots of psychology around the decisions we make on what we consume. It interests me to look at the necessities of food, clothing and shelter and why we make the decisions we do in these areas.
With all of these categories there are similarities. In general, the more more you pay the more you get, or at least we can make that generalization. Organic food costs more, but it's better for your body. Designer jeans are three times the price of those you can purchase elsewhere on sale, but they fit really well and will last a long time. And lastly, the more house the more money.
There are also differences here. Depending on who you are, you may value one category more than another or be a minimalist in all areas.
It is also interesting to think about these categories and how their value changes with different generations. I'll let you ponder that one for awhile. I definitely have my own opinions, but I'll simmer on this and revisit in a bit.
