Springtime in Alaska, With Food Coloring!   or...  Cabin Fever in Alaska

SO it is a little chilly and winds are gusting a little. I decided to play a little and make our own Springtime in Alaska, With Food Coloring!

This is our front yard, a daisy stomped out in the snow and 'painted' with food coloring in a spray bottle. Unfortunately I did not have the wherewithal to stand out there to make the colors really pop, but you get the idea.

We hear of it, we live through it and it was even on Mythbusters and the movie The Shining, but cabin fever caught me today!

For those of you that do not know about this winter time ailment aptly named cabin fever, it is a simple albeit seasonal disorder. It sneaks up on you when you are least expecting it and attacks when you least expect it. I survived this affliction today by doing something a little off normal.

Sometimes, you have to MAKE your own sunshine!

Very creative. And still cool, of course.

Tomorrow here in Tucson it will be a balmy 81 degrees with the high predicted for Thursday of 87 degrees. Golf anyone?

You RAT Jon! You going to send me back out there tonight to do an entire garden, aren't you?  ;)

I do not think there is enough food coloring in the entire state to make it look like a putting green though.

Quick-MORE FOOD COLORING!

Too cute, Jacque!  We are very fortunate for the most part - rain here and there but nothing like the gloomy days we saw while we lived in WA state!

Thank you DeeDee, sometimes you need a little 'silly' to break up a long day. Larry was on the phone watching me through the window the entire time.

He did laugh when he saw the picture since he could not tell what I was doing from ground level.

Hey there again Tim, they sell the SAD lights here at Costco and Sam's Club also! There are a lot of folks here that still use that as an excuse to go indoor tanning.

Jacque & Gary,

What a lovely and creative form of art using the snow covered ground with food coloring! I hope the earth is blanketed with real green greass and flower for you soon!

What you did is very nice and inspirational too!

Jacque & Larry - Super cute flower!!!  Better than any snow angel that I've seen.  Hate to state the obvious, but we are experiencing an early spring here...everything is blooming, grass is starting turn green, daffodils popping everywhere.  But, you like the snow, right?...that's why you live in Alaska!

Now that is a great idea!  If it is not time for real flowers yet, you can create your own in the snow!  Love it!

Roy, my favorite photographer of all things pretty, you KNOW I thought of you when I was doing this. Of course, it does not compare in the least to your pictures of flowers but dagnabit we are both ready for some spring! :) Life IS good Roy, thank you!

Patricia, I remember as a kid when a neighbor did something like this but much more elaborate. I was so impressed that apparently it stuck with me all these years later. I guess I had been in the office a little toooo long when it came back into my head. ha! We met with some folks today with some pre teens and I showed them the flower. One of them asked me if I learned how to do it on Google! Crack me up!

Denise, thank you very much-I had a snow angel in a previous post I think (I know we did them at the Iron Dog but I am not sure if I included that on in a post or just in a comment). I was born here and am used to it but the season does seem to get longer with each passing year. The long days of summer make the winter days worth it though! You do realize though, that you are approaching the category of Jon from #1 with the daffodil comment...

Nancy, thank you! We could have some indoors but I would probably forget to water them. This one will last much longer too (not sure if that is a good or bad thing yet though).

Now that’s what I call making the best out of something! I do feel sorry for that flower, though, for it must be cold. JJJJ
